| 말聯 주니어대표 막히춘 “이용대는 나의 우상” |
| ‘더 스타’와의 인터뷰에서 그의 영웅 이용대 닮고 싶다고 말해 |
 말레이시아 주니어대표 막히춘이 가장 닮고 싶은 배드민턴 선수로 이용대를 꼽았다. 2008주니어세계선수권대회를 앞두고 막히춘은 말레이시아 신문 ‘더 스타’(The Star)와의 인터뷰에서 그의 우상인 이용대를 닮고 싶다고 말했다. 막히춘은 "이용대는 내가 가장 좋아하는 선수다. 그는 주니어대회에서도 잘했었고 성인대회에서도 잘하고 있다. 그는 게임에서 어린 선수들에게 성숙한 플레이를 보여준다. 나는 이용대와 같은 선수가 되길 바란다." 고 말했다. 막히춘은 세계주니어선수권대회 남자복식과 여자복식 우승을 위해 막바지 훈련에 임하고 있으며 그의 우상인 남자복식의 이용대의 발자취를 따를것이라고 말했다. 막히춘은 10월 24일부터 11월 2일까지 인도 푸네에서 열리는 2008세계주니어배드민턴선수권대회에 테오 콕 시앙과 짝을 이룬 남자복식과 비비안 후와 혼합복식 종목에 출전한다. 그동안 세계주니어선수권대회에 림킴와와 짝을 이뤄 남자복식에 출전한 막히춘은 한국 선수와의 두번의 맞대결에서 모두 패했었다. 2006년 대회에서는 이용대(삼성전기)-조건우(삼성전기)조에게 준결승전에서 패했으며 2007년 대회에서는 정의석(원광대)-신백철(한체대)조에게 역시 준결승전에서 패했다. 막히춘은 "올해가 주니어대회는 마지막 대회이다. 콕시앙과 최선을 다할것이다"며 "올 아시아주니어선수권대회 우승 이후 많은 훈련을 했다"며 우승의 자신감을 보였다. 막히춘은 지난해 오클랜드에서 열린 2007 KLRC 세계청소년배드민턴선수권대회에서 혼합복식 1위와 남자복식 3위를 차지한 말레이시아 배드민턴 유망주이다. |

And for a start, Hee Chun wants to emulate his idol by taking the boys’ doubles title in the World Junior Championships which will be held in Pune, India, from Oct 24-Nov 2. Hee Chun partners Teo Kok Siang, with whom he won the Asian Juniors boys’s doubles title. He will also play in the mixed doubles, partnering Vivian Hoo. Mak Hee Chun is all fired up to win the world junior doubles title with partner Teo Kok Siang, and follow in the footsteps of his idol, South Korean doubles ace Lee Yong-dae. Hee Chun had featured in two previous World Juniors with a different partner. on both occasions with Lim Khim Wah, they were beaten in the semi-finals. “This is my last outing in the World Juniors and I want to do well with Kok Siang. “We have been putting in a lot of hard work after winning the Asian junior title this year,” said Hee Chun after a training session at the Juara Stadium in Bukit Kiara. “Yong-dae is my favourite player. He did well in junior tournaments and he is also playing well in senior tournaments. For a young player, he shows a lot of maturity in his game. I hope to be like him.” The 20-year-old Yong-dae ended his junior career with a bang — winning both the boys’ and mixed doubles titles at the 2006 World Juniors in Incheon City. As a senior player this year, he won the All-England men’s doubles title with Jung Jae-sung and the Beijing Olympics mixed doubles gold medal with Lee Hyo-jung. Meanwhile, Kok Siang said that they had improved a lot since training with the national senior players as part of their preparations for the World Juniors. “We have to keep pace with the seniors and have improved on our speed. Sometimes we find the training very taxing. Hopefully, Hee Chun and I will go all the way to win the world junior title,” he said. In last year’s edition in Auckland, Malaysia won one title through Khim Wah-Ng Hui Lin in the mixed doubles. |
